After some deep consideration towards the well-being of our members, the decision has been made to cancel our May Monthly Meeting. While the world is starting to reopen again, it is in the best interest of our club to limit potential spread of this virus to our members. Many other organizations in the Chattanooga area have felt the great impact from this pandemic and are anxious to be social once again. Scenic City Miatas is no exception to this as a revised schedule will be determined at our next meeting. For now, we plan to resume operations beginning with our June Monthly Meeting on June 16th at the O'Charly's in Hixson. We will be begin discussions to re-plan our next set of events so please bring any ideas you may have.
As President, I can't tell you all how much I appreciate your understanding during this time of uncertainty. I promise that our club functions will be back and better than ever in due time. Until then, be safe and Zoom-Zoom!
Scenic City Miatas President Austin Wilkerson

As of the time of this post, the voting shows a tie between the Cagle Mtn Run and the Ocoee-Tellico Loop. Voting remains open until April 20. Please, only vote if you intend to drive with us, and please only one vote per car. See link below to vote. We’ll discuss this run at our April 21 meeting and post all details here. https://sceniccitymiatas.createaforum.com/general-discussion/which-run-for-april-25/

Let’s do a run in April! Saturday April 25 to be exact. The only problem we have is determining which route will we drive. So, we’re asking you to decide. Below you will find the description of the three different runs. Then, you can vote using the poll above. Please, only vote if you intend to drive with us and only one vote per car.
Run #1 - The Ocoee-Tellico Loop This will be the better part of the day. We will meet at Sugarloaf Mtn Park in Ocoee. Wheels rolling at 9:30 am. We’ll take TN315 through Reliance to Tellico Plains. We’ll have lunch at the Iron Works Grill, then return to Ocoee on TN68 and US64. Approximate drive time is 2.5 hrs, 98 miles. Of course, you’ll need to add your drive time to the meetup.
Run #2 - The Canyon Grill Run This will be a late afternoon/ early evening run. We’ll meet at the Food City/CVS in St Elmo, wheels rolling at 4:15. The run will take us up Lookout Mtn to Scenic Hwy and we’ll go south to the Canyon Grill ( canyongrill.com ) It’s a restaurant with an excellent reputation and a menu to match. It’s just a bit pricey, but worth every penny. After dinner, the run will continue as we head north on GA157, Lula Lake Rd, and back down Lookout Mountain to our original starting place. Drive time is 1-1.5 hrs, 50 miles. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED
Run #3 - The Cagle Mountain Run Our third option takes us North. We’re still working out a few details on this one, but here’s the rough description. We’ll meet in Hixson at 9:30 am for some Cars & Coffee. Wheels rolling at 10:00 am. The run will take us toward Sail Creek (same route Jim Crocker used to lead us to his house). We’ll drive a curvy path over the mountain, head towards Dunlap, and take another curvy path back over the mountain to Dayton Pike. From there everyone can go their own way home. We’re looking for a lunch spot. Suggestions? Drive time is 2.5 hrs, 60 miles.
We hope you can join us for our first run of 2020!

I suggest we replace the George Dickel Distillery with the Nearest Green Distillery. It is in Shelbyville, 16 miles from Lynchburg. Uncle Nearest Green was JD's first Master Distiller and the brand is just getting off the ground. https://unclenearest.com/tours/

SCENIC CITY MIATAS – February 18, 2020 - Dinner / Meeting
We met at O’Charley’s in Hixson, Tennessee, and a pre-dinner meeting was held to discuss the pros and cons of incorporating the club, implementing club dues and purchasing liability insurance. Mike Kern had invited a man he knew from another car club, (Bill), to the meeting. Bill is President of a car group and has first-hand experience in incorporating, implementing dues and purchasing liability insurance for the group.
Several members were in attendance of the pre-dinner meeting and, after listening to Bill describe his experiences, a discussion was had.
After dinner, Austin Wilkerson, President, opened up the meeting asking for discussion and any questions regarding incorporating, implementing dues and purchasing liability insurance to the group at large. A fee of $25 was suggested as a charge for annual dues.
Jerry Payne made a motion that no dues be implemented and stated his reason was that when other clubs he had belonged to charged dues, the membership declined. He recommended that a “hat” be passed around the room at each meeting and that members could make donations as a way of raising money for the club to use.
Marilyn Southerland questioned how the monies would be used. Eric Smith stated that the Mountain Miatas of East Tennessee Club was a 501(c) 3 club and donated a portion of their dues to various charities.
After a lengthy discussion by several members, the vote was in favor of not implementing dues at this time.
A sign in sheet was suggested for each meeting and a member information sheet be provided at each meeting for any new members attending.
Austin asked how the group would like to see any monies collected to be used and the following were suggested:
- Name tags
- Magnets with logo for the side of the car
- Shirts with logo
- Hats with logo
- Window decals with logo
Bill suggested the club create a banner or flag to be set out in front of the cars whenever we gathered together in order to make the club more visible.
No further discussion was had on incorporating or the purchase of liability insurance.
Austin announced the next meeting would be March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) at O’Charleys and asked that everyone wear green. A pre-dinner meeting will be held starting at 6:00 p.m. to discuss upcoming events and rides.
Mike Kern announced the Coker Cruise is scheduled for March 28, 2020.
The meeting was adjourned.

I have 2 sets of tires for my Miata. Last Tuesday I drove my Miata all day on my winter tires and was surprised how slippery they were. So, I got gas at my favorite tire store, Middle Valley Tire and looked at the build dates. All of them were 2010!!! No wonder they were hard and slippery! Fortunately, they are almost down to the wear bars. New ones ordered. Some folks say you should replace tires at 6 years. Don't know but 10 is plenty long enough.
The date code is the last 4 digits after "DOT". The first 2 are the week and the last 2 are the year.
